The Punch Robusto Suisse Edition was commissioned as an Edición Regional for the Swiss distributor, and it brings a distinctly refined approach to the Punch robusto format. At 124mm x 50, it shares the dimensions of a standard robusto, but the blend has been tailored to Swiss market preferences, which tend toward elegance and complexity within a medium-full framework. The result is a Punch robusto that feels more polished than the standard line — still recognisably Punch, but with a layer of sophistication that sets it apart.
The Suisse Edition opens with a refined take on the Punch house style. The cedar and almond notes are present but more delicate — less toasted, more like fresh-cut cedar with a faint sweetness. The 50 ring gauge gives a full, round draw that's typical of the robusto format, and the smoke volume is generous. A gentle spice builds in the first third, but it's a white pepper rather than the sharper black pepper of standard Punch benchmarks. The blend immediately signals that it's been built with a different hand.
The middle third is where the Suisse Edition distinguishes itself. A creamy quality emerges that's more pronounced than in the standard Punch line — the blend has a silkier mouthfeel that suggests a higher proportion of seco in the ligada. The almond note deepens into marzipan, and a subtle floral quality appears on the retrohale that's unusual for a Punch cigar. A light honey sweetness threads through the smoke, balancing the cedar and pepper. The overall impression is of a Punch robusto that's been polished rather than reimagined — the house character is unmistakable, but the edges have been smoothed.
The final third brings a return to the brand's more assertive side. The pepper builds, the cedar darkens, and a coffee note adds structure. The transition from the refined middle to the more powerful finish is gradual, not abrupt. The cigar ends on a satisfying note of dark wood, toasted nut, and a building pepper that's warm rather than sharp. For a medium-full robusto, the development across the three thirds is impressive.
The Suisse Edition is rolled to standard robusto specifications — 124mm x 50 — and the construction quality reflects the limited-edition production run. The wrapper is typically mid-brown with a light sheen, slightly lighter than the standard namesake Punch. The pack is firm and even, and the draw is excellent — smooth with slight resistance. The burn line is typically straight through all three thirds, and the ash holds in a compact grey column. Edición Regional productions often benefit from closer quality control than regular line cigars, and the Suisse Edition appears to be a beneficiary of that attention.
The Suisse Edition's refined profile calls for an equally refined pairing. A Swiss white wine — a Chasselas from the Lavaux region — is a natural match, with the wine's mineral and floral notes echoing the cigar's floral retrohale. For spirits, a delicate Cognac or a well-aged Armagnac complements the marzipan and honey notes. If you prefer whisky, a lowland single malt (like Auchentoshan) has the lightness to match the cigar's elegance without overwhelming the subtler notes.
As an Edición Regional, the Suisse Edition was produced in limited quantity and is not part of the regular Punch line. It commands a premium over the standard namesake Punch and that premium has been increasing as remaining stock sells through. The refined blend also makes it an interesting aging candidate — 3 to 5 years should further integrate the floral and honey notes. Sealed boxes are increasingly difficult to find.
Punch was established in 1840 by Manuel López and is named after the Punch magazine puppet character that appears on the brand's box artwork. The brand is part of the Habanos S.A. portfolio, with all leaf sourced from the Vuelta Abajo region. Learn more at Punch on Wikipedia.
Store at 65–68% RH. The Suisse Edition's wrapper is slightly thinner than the standard namesake Punch, so avoid prolonged storage above 70%. The robusto format is forgiving of minor humidity variation, but the refined blend benefits from stable conditions. Dry-box for 12 hours before smoking if cellaring at 70%. For long-term aging, 66% RH in a cedar-lined humidor is ideal.
What makes the Suisse Edition different from the standard namesake Punch?
The vitola and dimensions are the same — 124mm x 50 robusto — but the blend is adjusted for the Swiss market. The Suisse Edition has a creamier mouthfeel, more pronounced floral notes, and a silkier profile than the standard namesake Punch.
Is the Suisse Edition still available?
Edición Regional cigars are limited production. Once the allocation is sold through, no additional production is scheduled. Availability depends on remaining distributor stock.
Should I age the Suisse Edition?
Yes. The refined blend benefits from 3 to 5 years of aging, which integrates the floral and honey notes and softens the pepper further.
