In 1966, Fidel Castro created the Cohiba cigar brand as his personal smoke. Launched in Spain in 1982 after having initially been available only as a gift from the Cuban government. As the brand sells for a premium over other Cuban cigars, its fame and price make it a target for counterfeiters. There were also pigtail cap cigars with partial tobacco introduced by Cohiba in February 2010, as well as the Maduro 5 line in 2007.
